What we are going to do with the funding this year.
What we used the funding on during 2015 – 2016
What is it?
The Pupil Premium is government money designed to help disadvantaged children and young people to do well at school. The funding is allocated to schools for children from Reception to Year 11 who have registered for free school meals in the last six years, are in care or have parents in the Armed Forces.
How is it spent?
Some children will already be doing well in English, maths or other subjects. But there may be things we can do to stretch them further, to help them aim high, or build their confidence.
If children are behind in English, maths or other subjects, we may arrange for them to have special small group teaching. We call these ‘intervention programmes’.
We may provide:
- Small group work with an experienced teacher focussed on overcoming gaps in learning support
- Additional teaching and learning opportunities provided through learning mentors, trained TAs or external agencies
- Providing cultural, social, sporting and enrichment activities to broaden experience (including after school and lunchtime clubs and residential experiences)
- Running initiatives to improve attendance and punctuality
How much parents and carers get involved with their child’s learning makes a very big difference to how well they do at school.
Each year we publish our action plan to show the detail.
How will parents know it is working?
We track all children’s progress each term, so we can quickly see if plans are working. We will report to you at parents’ evenings each term, but if you would like information on your child’s progress at any time, please talk to your child’s teacher.
I am not sure if my child could have free school meals – where can I get more information?
Please speak to Ms. L. Whatmore or Mrs A Jones in the school office, in confidence. They will be really glad to help.
If you would like more information please download our Pupil Premium Policy.
